Comedian Louis C.K. went from being one of the best stand-up comedians in the world to having one of the most acclaimed shows on TV when he made Louie, which is based on his life in New York City as a comedian who is trying to raise his daughters. Louie Season 5 concluded in 2015, but FX is willing to pull the trigger on new episodes if Louis C.K. ever decides he wants to do it. So how are things looking for Louie season 6 right now? Not so good.

Louis C.K. recently spoke at the Television Critics Association summer press tour and talked a bit about Louie season 6, or the lack thereof. As reported by Variety, the actor, comedian and producer doesn't really think much about returning to his hit series these days simply because his "stained blacked T-shirt" days are behind him. Here's what he had to say about it.

"I don't think the version of Louie that was on FX, I don't think I'll do that exact version again because I just haven't been that guy for a while with the stained blacked T-shirt and the two kids because they're older now. I always thought if I did Louie again, I may go back to it later in a different version. No idea if I'll do it, I don't think about it much."

The fact of the matter is that Louis C.K. is plenty busy even without Louie season 6 to worry about. He co-created Baskets and Better Things, a Louie spin-off of sorts, for FX, as well as his web series Horace and Pete, in addition to his work as a touring comedian. He also has an animated series called The Cops on the way, not to mention the occasional film role he takes on. FX CEO John Landgraf acknowledges that a lot has changed for Louis C.K., but he still has his fingers crossed for more Louie in the future.

"I think he's changed a lot since he made the last season of 'Louie.' I think he's run out of things to say...from that time in his life...he's become so much more successful than who he was portraying on the show that I think it started feeling a little faux. I think if he ever made it again, it would be a very different show. I have my fingers crossed."

Beyond being hopeful, John Landgraf didn't have any other updates on Louie season 6. He did, however, say that it's possible we could see sporadic seasons of the show come out over the next three decades. Or that we may never see Louie on the air again. Nobody really knows right now and it all depends on Louis C.K. and his desire to do it.

"I really don't have any update on Season 6. I think it's possible there will never be another season of Louie. I think it's also possible there will be four or five more seasons of Louie over the next 30 years."

For now, Louis C.K. seems perfectly content making TV that isn't so centered on him starring in it. "I love making TV and right now in TV, I'm involved in her show," he said, speaking of Pamela Adlon's Better Things. He added that he thinks "it's the best show on TV." So fans of Louie will just have to try and get into Baskets and Better Things for the time being, but that isn't such a bad thing.
