Last week, Disney XD announced a brand new Star Wars animated series entitled LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures, which is set to debut this summer on the cable network. The announcement came with our first look at artwork from the series. Now, YouTube user dreamnailz has uncovered the announcement trailer, which has our first look at footage from this show. While no voice cast members have been announced for this LEGO Star Wars adventure, this trailer does offer new insight into the plot.

The footage shows that, long ago, a Jedi Master forged the Kyber Saber, a lightsaber made of Kyber Crystals. It proved to be too powerful, so the Jedi Master shattered it, and scattered the crystals throughout the galaxy, to keep the power out of evil's hands. The show centers on Kordi, Zander, and Rowan, three sibling scavengers who, with the help of Roger and Naare, are on a quest across the galaxy, to retrieve the Kyber Crystals before the Emperor does. Told in the whimsically-charged style that audiences have come to expect from LEGO Star Wars entertainment, the series stars the Freemakers, a family of scavengers who build and sell starships from the scoured debris of space battles strewn throughout the galaxy.

The youngest of these siblings also discovers a natural connection with the Force through this ancient artifact. As a result, his world is turned upside down, and he and his family are thrown into an epic struggle against the Empire to restore peace and freedom to the galaxy. Throughout their adventures, the Freemakers explore new worlds, meet new and familiar characters, and learn the true value of what it means to be a family.

LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures is a production of Wil Film, the LEGO Group and Lucasfilm. Developed for television by Bill Motz and Bob Roth (Penguins of Madagascar), they join Torsten Jacobsen (Lego Star Wars: Droid Tales) and Jill Wilfert (The Lego Movie) as executive producers alongside producers Carrie Beck (Star Wars Rebels), Jason Cosler (LEGO Marvel Super Heroes: Avengers Reassembled!), Jake Blais and John McCormack.

This trailer for LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures features LEGO versions of iconic Star Wars villains Darth Vader and The Emperor, but it isn't known what other heroes and villains may surface in this animated series. The network has not announced a series premiere date at this time, but hopefully we'll have more information soon. Until then, take a look at the trailer below.
