In April, it was confirmed that The Leftovers will shoot Season 2 in Texas, with only half of the first season cast returning. Today, HBO released the first teaser trailer for the second season, which reveals exactly why The Leftovers has shifted from the fictional town of Mapleton, New York, to Jarden, Texas. The trailer shows a line of cars several miles long, just outside the Jarden city limits, with cars from Colorado, California, New York and several other states just parked in the middle of a desolate highway.

More than three years ago, 2% of the world's population inexplicably vanished. 140 million people, gone in an instant. No country, no state, no city was spared, except for one small town in Eastern Texas. Population: 9261. Departures: Zero. It isn't exactly known why these cars are all parked on the highway, but it seems likely that the demand to move into Jarden is very high, creating this massive traffic jam, as it were. Season One stars Carrie Coon, Justin Theroux, Amy Brenneman, Chris Zylka, Margaret Qualley and Christopher Eccleston are returning for The Leftovers Season 2, along with new cast members Kevin Carroll, Regina King, Jovan Adepo and Darius McCrary.

The HBO series is created by Damon Lindelof and Tom Perrotta, who serve as executive producers alongside Mimi Leder, Tom Spezialy and Peter Berg. Production is currently under way in Texas, with the ten-episode second season set to debut this fall.
