The Leftovers garnered mixed reactions when it debuted last summer on HBO. It was a sometimes odd, sometimes uneven and often times brilliant take on the aftermath of an event known as 'The Departure', which can basically be described as the biblical Rapture. The show comes from Creator Damon Lindelof and executive producer Tom Perotta, who will return for The Leftovers Season 2. Some big changes are in store for the series, as it prepares for its return. We heard back in December that half the cast would be cut, and the location would change. Now, TVLine confirms that production is moving to Austin Texas, as the action shifts itself away from the fictional setting of Mapleton, New York as seen in The Leftovers Season 1. Now, the story will be set in an unspecified Texas city.

As reported in December, almost half of the original cast won't return for these new episodes. Justin Theroux, Carrie Coon, Amy Brenneman, Christopher Eccleston, Margaret Qualley and Chris Zylka are all expected to reprise their main roles from the first year. And the show will introduce a new African-American family into the ensemble. The reason for the changes is simple. The first season exhausted all of the source material from the book upon which it is based.

Damon Lindelof and Tom Perotta want to move into new, unexplored territory. Filming is expected to begin this month. The new episodes will likely debut sometime this summer on HBO. A full cast breakdown for The Leftovers Season 2 has not been confirmed. We'll be sure to keep you updated as shooting begins and more information is released to the public.
