The director of one of this year's Best Picture nominees is heading to the small screen for a new TV project. According to Variety, Precious director Lee Daniels is developing a new family drama at HBO with author Amy Bloom.

The series will revolve around a multigenerational and multiracial family in Philadelphia and Bloom will write the pilot script and Daniels will direct, if the script is greenlit by the network. Daniels and Bloom will executive produce alongside Jimmy Miller and Sam Hansen.

Daniels and Bloom share the same agent and when the director was shown her work, he realized he wanted to work with her.

"I realized that she had the same sort of mind that I had," Daniels said. "Her writing is very similar to my sensibility. She has created a world that is layered with complexities."
