Philip Pullman fans have been waiting for a proper adaptation of His Dark Materials and it has finally arrived. The small screen adaptation is already proving to be a lot darker and grittier than 2007's big screen adaptation The Golden Compass. Fans of Pullman's novels were not happy with the way the film adaptation panned out, which is understandable. That being said, it looks like things are finally starting to look up for His Dark Materials fans.

His Dark Materials has been teased in the past, but this is on a whole new level. Phillip Pullman's epic trilogy of fantasy novels has gained a cult following with legions of fans. HBO is aiming to create a faithful adaptation of the original story. The edge is already there as you can tell in the trail and producers New Line Cinema, Jane Tranter, Julie Gardner are going to continue to push the envelope with creator Philip Pullman onboard as executive producer. This series is something to get really excited for.

His Dark Materials follows Lyra (Dafne Keen), a seemingly ordinary but brave young woman from another world. Her search for a kidnapped friend uncovers a sinister plot involving stolen children, and becomes a quest to understand a mysterious phenomenon called Dust. As she journeys through the worlds, including our own, Lyra meets a determined and courageous boy called Will. Together they encounter extraordinary beings and dangerous secrets, with the fate of both the living, and the dead, in their hands.

HBO and BBC premieres His Dark Materials, a new original series based on the global bestseller, this fall.
