There has been an outpouring of love and support for Shannen Doherty over the past two years as she battles cancer. The former Beverly Hills 90210 and Mallrats star seems to be recuperating nicely. And she's recovered well enough to finally announced that she is returning to her earliest movie roots. Yes, the iconic TV actress is returning to the small screen in the Heathers TV reboot. She had this to say on Instagram, confirming the news with a first look photo.

"Sneak peek from the #Heathers set..... jealous much? @tvland"

Shannen Doherty played Heather Duke in the original 1988 cult classic headlined by Stranger Things star Winona Ryder and Mr. Robot star Christian Slater. True fans of the movie will automatically recognize that Doherty is wearing the same red scrunch her character wore in the original. Here, she will be playing a whole new character.

Heathers was a pitch black comedy, and considered ahead of its time for the 80s. The movie followed a teen, played by Ryder, who teams up with a sociopath played by Slater. They set out to kill off the cool-girl clique in their high school and set off a wave of suicides.

The Heathers TV show, which will debut on TV Land in 2017, is set up as an anthology series. It will be set in modern day, with every season following a new teen heroine who has to deal with her own Heathers clique. No details have been revealed for Shannon Doherty's character at this time. Though, it has been noted that she will play a key role. About getting back on her feet and continuing to work, the actress had this to say.

"I think what's beautiful and hard and interesting about cancer is that it tears you down and builds you. It remakes you so many different times. The person I thought I was supposed to be or was going to be or who I thought I was six months ago is now somebody completely different."

Heathers is currently shooting. Leslye Headland is set to direct the pilot. Grace Cox and James Scully will star in the show, but it's unclear if they will return for subsequent seasons should TV Land renew it. Here's the first look image of Shannen Doherty on set.
