Tao Okamoto, who made her acting debut in last year's The Wolverine, is moving to the small screen, landing the role of Lady Murasaki in NBC's Hannibal.

The character is said to possess an "alluring and classic beauty" who also harbors a dark secret. She is said to have a "major guest-starring arc" on the show, but it isn't known how many episodes she has signed on for at this time.

The character was first introduced in Thomas Harris' novel Hannibal Rising, with Li Gong portraying the character in the 2007 feature adaptation. In the novel and the adaptation, Lady Murasaki was Hannibal Lecter's aunt, but it isn't clear if they are keeping this aspect of the character for the TV series, since Tao Okamoto is 29 and Mads Mikkelsen, who plays Hannibal Lecter on the series, is 49.

Hannibal Season 3 will focus on the manhunt for Hannibal Lecter, following the bloodbath that occurred in the Season 2 finale. The hunt for Lecter will begin in Europe, with Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) trying to track down the serial killer.

Tao Okamoto is currently shooting Warner Bros.' Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, where she plays Mercy Graves.
