The Twilight Saga: Eclipse and 30 Days of Night director David Slade is set to helm the pilot for NBC's new fall series Hannibal, which will revolve around notorious serial killer Hannibal Lector.

Most famously played by Anthony Hopkins in Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal Lector springs from the Thomas Harris novel Red Dragon, and has been the subject of five different film adaptations.

The series, which has a thirteen-episode order, will follow FBI agent Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) and his budding relationship with (yet to be cast) mentor and cannibal Hannibal Lector.

The pilot will reportedly shoot soon, but no production start date has been given.
