The world of streaming video has turned into a cutthroat business, with each platform trying to outdo Netflix, which has become the beast to beat. Hulu has always been sort of the ugly stepsister to Netflix, but they have improved in leaps and bounds when it comes to their original programming. Now, they are set to release what could be one of their best dramas to date.

Today we have the first teaser trailer for The Handmaid's Tale. It stars Elisabeth Moss. And it will premiere on Hulu starting April 26. The show is adapted from the classic novel by Margaret Atwood. It tells the story of life in the dystopia of Gilead, a totalitarian society in what was formerly the United States.

Facing environmental disasters and a plunging birthrate, Gilead is ruled by a twisted fundamentalism in its militarized 'return to traditional values'. As one of the few remaining fertile women, Offred (Elisabeth Moss) is a Handmaid in the Commander's household, one of the caste of women forced into sexual servitude as a last desperate attempt to repopulate the world. In this terrifying society, Offred must navigate between Commanders, their cruel Wives, domestic Marthas, and her fellow Handmaids, where anyone could be a spy for Gilead, all with one goal: to survive and find the daughter that was taken from her.

The Handmaid's Tale will consist of 10-episodes in it's first season. Elisabeth Moss is joined by a stellar ensemble cast that includes Joseph Fiennes, Yvonne Strahovski, Samira Wiley, Max Minghella, Madeline Brewer, Ann Dowd and O-T Fagbenle. The Handmaid's Tale comes to Hulu from MGM Television and is created, executive produced and written by Bruce Miller. Executive produced by Warren Littlefield, Daniel Wilson and Fran Sears, and Ilene Chaiken. MGM will serve as the international distributor for the series.

Though perhaps best known for her starring role in the critically acclaimed hit series Mad Men, Elizabeth Moss is a former child star who got her start in the 1990 TV series Lucky Chances at the age of 6. She made her feature film debut in the comedy Suburban Commando opposite Hulk Hogan, and hasn't stopped since. She had a major recurring role on the 90s drama Picket Fences. And she starred as Zoey Bartlet on West Wing before taking on the iconic role of Peggy Olson on Mad Men. She also appeared in the hit drama series Top of the Lake.
