ABC is moving full steam ahead on their upcoming Grey's Anatomy Spin-Off. They haven't yet titled the series, but we do know that it is going to center on firefighters and that Jaina Lee Ortiz is going to be the female lead. Now, it has been confirmed that Jason George, who has been a series regular on Grey's Anatomy since season 12 and first appeared on the show in season 6, is going to star in this firefighter spin-off.

The news comes courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter, who reveal that Jason George will become a series regular on the upcoming Grey's Anatomy firefighter spin-off. At the moment, details on his transition are being kept under wraps, but it is said to be a key part of his storyline in Grey's Anatomy season 14. The report notes that George will continue to be a series regular on Grey's Anatomy until production on the spin-off commences.

It is also being said that Jason George may not continue to show up on Grey's Anatomy once the still untitled firefighter spin-off gets going. Since the spin-off was picked up straight to series back in May, he will likely be quite busy with the new series and may not have time to go back and forth between Grey's Anatomy and the new spin-off. Here's what ABC Studios president Patrick Moran had this to say about how this new spin-off came to be.

"It was up to Shonda to tell us when she had inspiration for something that made sense, which was pretty recent. We talked about the elements of Grey's Anatomy that seem to resonate with the audience, emotional storytelling, deep human connection, a high-stakes environment and strong and empowered women, and those elements will carry over to the spinoff."

Jason George's transition into this new firefighter series seems very fitting. At the end of Grey's Anatomy season 13, his character, Dr. Ben Warren, kicked it into firefighter mode when he attempted to rescue Jerrika Hinton's character, Stephanie. Originally, ABC had pictured this new Grey's Anatomy spin-off with an entirely new cast, but Geroge fits the bill and will help provide some connective tissue to the hit flagship series. THR says the new series "centers on a group of heroic Seattle firefighters from the captain down the ranks in their personal and professional lives."

Grey's Anatomy has been a massive hit for ABC over the years and will cross the 300 episode mark during its 14th season. This new firefighter spin-off also marks the second in the history of Grey's Anatomy. Private Practice, the first spin-off, was also quite successful, running for 6 seasons from 2007 to 2013. Shonda Rhimes and her partner Betsy Beers will executive produce the new spin-off, alongside Grey's Anatomy executive producer and co-showrunner Stacy McKee, who has now started working on the firefighter spin-off full time. There's no word yet on when this new spin-off is slated to debut. Grey's Anatomy season 14 is set to start airing on September 28.
