Grace and Frankie is about to take the top prize for most episodes of any Netflix original series. Unfortunately it also marks the end of the half-hour comedy series, as things are coming to a close with Season 7.

Season 6 hasn't premiered yet, and the streaming platform is already talking about the seventh and final season. Netflix has given the comedy a 16-episode season to tie up their storylines, putting their total at 94. Co-creators and showrunners Marta Kauffman and Howard J. Morris had this to say about the long run.

"It's thrilling and somehow fitting that our show about the challenges, as well as the beauty and dignity of aging, will be the oldest show on Netflix."

The series follows Jane Fonda and Lilly Tomlin's Grace and Frankie who, after their beloved husbands played by Martin Sheen and Sam Waterston reveal their 20 year-long love affair, decide to go through life as roommates. The alchemy of Fonda's uptight and proper Grace and Tomlin's aspiring artist Frankie that does drugs, goes on spirit quests and names her children Coyote and Nwabudike makes for a hilarious comedy. The actresses are both "delighted and heartbroken" that Grace and Frankie will end with its seventh season, saying this in a joint statement.

"We're so grateful that our show has been able to deal with issues that have really connected to our grand generation. And their kids, and amazingly, their kids as well.  We'll miss these two old gals, Grace and Frankie, as much as many of their fans will, but we'll still be around. We've outlasted so many things - just hope we don't outlast the planet."

The Netflix series has nabbed 11 Emmy nominations and 6 Screen Actors Guild Award nominations as well as a Golden Globe nomination for Tomlin. Netflix's VP of Original Series Cindy Holland thanked the actors that, "have become role models for fans that span generations around the world," as well as the creators that were "superb partners every step of the way," adding,

"Since its premiere in 2015, Grace and Frankie has expertly and hilariously demystified the experience of growing older and given a voice to the fastest growing segment of our population."

Skydance was equally gratuitous towards Netflix and the cast that helped launch their television division, saying that the "brilliant vision" of Marta Kaufmann and Howard Morris, "captured the zeitgeist and audiences of all ages," through the incredible cast, "led by legends Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin."

Fonda and Tomlin will be returning to the small screen in the sixth season of Grace and Frankie this January. They'll be joined by the returning cast of their extended family Sam Waterston, Martin Sheen, June Diane Raphael, Brooklyn Decker, Baron Vaughn and Ethan Embry. The entire cast is expected to return for the seventh season as well.

From Brianna finding love to Grace and Frankie finding success selling sex toys for elders. The series has consistently surprised with their storylines. Season 5 ended with Frankie returning to the beach house and her roommate. She was relieved to continue their lives until Grace revealed she married Nick, played by Peter Gallagher.

Season 6 premieres on Netflix this January. This news comes to us by way of Deadline.
