While most of the main cast has been confirmed to return for Netflix's upcoming Gilmore Girls revival series, it remains unclear if Melissa McCarthy will reprise her role as Sookie. In response to being asked if she would participate, the actress, who became a big star after her time spend on The CW drama, simply replied 'No One Asked Me.' But that may not be entirely true.

This past Monday, Series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino told TVLine that Melissa McCarthy has an open invitation to return in one of the four new episodes being produced. But that message obviously hasn't reached the actress. She had this to say on her official Twitter.

"Thanks for the invite, but sadly no one asked me or Sookie to come back to Stars Hollow. Wish them all the best!!"

Melissa McCarthy skyrocketed to fame after her time spent on Gilmore Girls, first with her breakout role in 2011's Bridesmaids. She has since headlined her own sitcom Mike & Molly, which will end this year. Later in 2016, she will headline two big movies. First she will be seen in The Boss, which arrives this spring, and she is also part of the ensemble cast for the new Ghostbusters reboot. Amy Sherman-Palladino acknowledged how busy her former employee is, stating the following.

"She's really f-ing busy. But the thing I have said [to her team] is, 'Look, if Melissa is available and has an afternoon free, I'll write her a scene. Melissa was one of us. If she has a spare moment to run over [to the set] - even if for just a cameo - we would be totally game. And if it's a last-minute thing, I would write her in and we would figure it out. That's the way we left it."

So, will it happen? We're not sure. Edward Herrmann, who played patriarch of the family Richard Gilmore, sadly passed away in 2014 after losing his fight against brain cancer. Amy Sherman-Palladino recently revealed how the Gilmore Girls Revival Event Series will both honor and explain his absence. She has this to say about carrying on the Richard Gilmore legacy.

"It's later in their lives and we're meeting up with them and finding out what they've been doing but, more than that, that all three of their lives are going to change. And for Emily, it had to be that Richard was gone. And what did that mean? What does it mean for all three of the girls? [A tragedy like that] brings up thoughts of, "Where am I? Where am I going? What am I doing?" Because it's mortality. Something they loved is gone, which means things you love will not be around forever. And you can't take them for granted. He was part of us, and he's gone,. You couldn't just say, 'Oh, Richard died peacefully in his sleep, and now we're going to go to the cherry-picking festival.' It's painful. I still choke up when I talk about it, because I wasn't prepared for it."

As of right now, Amy Sherman-Palladino doesn't want to release all four episodes all at once. Instead, she'd like to have at least a day between each new episode's debut, but she doesn't know if Netflix will be down for that. She also reveals that even though they are on the unrestricted Netflix streaming service, her characters may not fall into bouts of cursing. You can read more about the revival here. What do you think? Are you excited to see Sookie back in Stars Hallow? Or are you okay with Melissa McCarthy sitting this one out?
