Last season on Game of Thrones, the hit HBO series brought back a number of characters who had been missing for several seasons, such as Rickon Stark (Art Parkinson), Osha (Natalia Tena), Benjen Stark (Joseph Mawle) and the nefarious Walder Frey (David Bradley). Today we have a report that the show is bringing back another long-missing character, who was recently spotted on the set as production began in Spain this week on Game of Thrones Season 7. That character is none other than Gendry, played by Joe Dempsie.

Filming has begun in Barrika on Muriola Beach, in the Basque Country of Spain, with new photos from set surfacing that show Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister) and Liam Cunningham (Davos Seaworth) on what is believed to be the shores of Dragonstone island. While there is no visual evidence to support it, another report claims that Joe Dempsie has been spotted on the set, which, if it is actually Dragonstone, would be quite ironic. Gendry was last seen rowing away from Dragonstone in the Season 3 finale.

This report isn't terribly surprising, since we reported last month that Joe Dempsie was spotted arriving in Belfast, Northern Ireland, the production hub of the series. Still, since the series is reportedly filming scenes that take place in Dragonstone, the site where Gendry was last seen rowing away from, his return at the very place he was leaving is quite puzzling indeed. It's possible that he actually returned to Dragonstone shortly after rowing away from it. Joe Dempsie had previously appeared on 17 episodes of the hit series, before his last appearance in the Season 3 finale

It's also interesting that Liam Cunningham's Davos Seaworth was spotted on the set, since Davos was the one who actually helped Gendry escape. We first met Gendry in the first season, a skilled blacksmith who was identified by Ned Stark (Sean Bean) as one of Robert Baratheon's (Mark Addy) bastard sons. While he was set to join the Night's Watch, he was captured by the Brotherhood Without Banners, but they turned him over to Melisandre (Carice Van Houten) in Season 3. After Melisandre leeches his blood, Davos helps him escape and he was last seen in a boat, rowing away from Dragonstone in the Season 3 finale.

Earlier this week, it was rumored that Dragonstone would be where Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) lands her massive fleet of ships. The presence of Tyrion Lannister, who was last seen sailing to Westeros alongside Daenerys, essentially confirms this rumor, with Tyrion and Davos possibly meeting to discuss an alliance between Daenerys and Jon Snow (Kit Harington).
