That's a wrap on Fresh Off the Boat. ABC has decided to cancel the series, meaning that season 6 will be its last. The show will end its run as the longest-running sitcom about an Asian-American family in history. It was also the first such show to make it to air in more than a decade when it premiered in 2015.

Ratings for Fresh Off the Boat had started to decline in recent years. ABC moved the show to Friday nights, but that didn't help all that much. As such, the network confirmed in a press release that they will not be ordering another season, with the season 6 finale now set to serve as the series finale. Series creator Nahnatchka Khan had this to say in a statement.

"I'm so proud of the show and what we've accomplished over the past six seasons. Thank you to everyone at ABC and 20th Century Fox Television for going on this ride with us. It was truly a special experience and hopefully will forever be a reminder of all the stories out there that deserve to be told. Like B.I.G. said, 'And if you don't know, now you know.'"

The series cast includes Constance Wu, Randall Park, Hudson Yang, Forrest Wheeler, Ian Chen, Lucille Soong, Chesley Crisp and Ray Wise. As many fans will recall, Wu created quite the controversy earlier this year when she expressed her disappointment on Twitter when the show was picked up for season 6, saying she was "literally crying," later clarifying that's because she had to pass on another project. ABC entertainment president Karey Burke had this to say in a statement.

"We couldn't be prouder of this game-changing show and the impact it has had on our cultural landscape. The success of 'Fresh Off the Boat' has helped pave the way for inclusion throughout the industry. Nahnatchka Khan and her brilliant creative team have created an unforgettable series with an Asian-American family front and center, something that hadn't been done in two decades. The cast, led by Randall Park and Constance Wu, is one of the finest and funniest on television. We'll miss the Huang family and are eternally grateful for the incredibly heartfelt stories they have told these past six seasons."

It doesn't seem as though Constance Wu's desire to see the show end had any effect on the network's decision. At least not officially. Wu, as of this writing, had not responded to news of the show's cancellation publically. Fresh Off the Boat is loosely based on the memoir of the same name by Eddie Huang. It centers, very basically, on a young Huang and Taiwanese-American family in Florida in the 1990s.

Despite the decline in ratings, the show has been generally embraced by critics. Fresh Off the Boat season 6 will air its 14th and 15th episodes on February 21, serving as its hour-long series finale. This news was first reported by Vulture.
