Kevin Smith has a very dedicated fan base, largely because he is very much a fan of things himself. Anyone who has followed his career at any point, especially now, knows that he is a tremendous fan of comic books and this year, he finally made his superhero directorial debut on The Flash. As a fan, he is surely happy, but fans of the show will likely be happy as well, because Kevin Smith is coming back for season 3.

In a recent interview with Den of Geek, Smith confirmed that he is officially coming back for Season 3, and he will be directing the seventh episode of the upcoming season. We have nearly nothing in the way of specific details yet, or any word as to when the episode will air, but this is welcomed news, especially considering that we know season 3 will be taking on the Flashpoint storyline. The episode Smith directed last season, "The Runaway Dinosaur," was one of the most well reviewed and well liked episodes of The Flash season 2. Oddly enough, it may have been one of the most well reviewed things of Smith's long career.

The director has shared his love for the show and even more so his love for the process of directing The Flash last season on his many various podcasts. On a recent episode of his Hollywood Babble-On podcast, which he co-hosts with Ralph Garman, he also mentioned that he would be returning for season 3, and also noted that Zack Stentz will be writing the episode. Stentz wrote the episode that Smith directed last season, and he is also writing the in-development Booster Gold movie for Warner Bros. In his Den of Geek interview, Smith also expressed his interest for possibly directing Arrow and bringing the character Onomatopoeia to it.

"I know I'm going back to The Flash, first week of September, to direct episode 7 of season 3. Still haven't heard anything back from Arrow. You know, I wish, it would be amazing because I would love to write and direct Onomatopoeia in the show. Um, but I know they're doing - what is it? - Wild Dog this year, as well as Vigilante, so maybe they're just like 'we don't need you', or whatever. But, at the moment, anyone over there raises a flag; I'm like 'please, let me in!' That'd be fun as fuck."

Smith has also been jokingly vocal on his podcasts about how his episode of The Flash was the thing that he has received the most praise for in his entire career, and that he has sort of found a new potential home directing TV. His latest movie Yoga Hosers has been getting panned by critics, but on the flip side of things, his TV career seems to be taking off quickly. It was recently announced that his Mallrats sequel, MallBrats, will become a 10-episode TV miniseries as opposed to a feature. He was also recently attached to develop a TV adaptation of the cult classic The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension, better known simply as Buckaroo Banzai.

Right now, Smith has a few movie projects in the works. Yoga Hosers is getting a theatrical release on September 2, and he is gearing up to film the third movie in his "True North" trilogy, Moose Jaws. Smith lovingly explains that movie as "Jaws, but with a moose." After that, it looks like he very well may be transitioning to the world of TV, and even though we have only seen one episode, that may very well be a good thing. The Flash season 3 is set to premiere on October 4.
