Way back in August, a few months before Season 2 of The Flash got under way, it was announced that Tony Todd will provide the voice of this season's primary villain, Zoom, but there was also a catch. The producers revealed that one of the big mysteries this season is who will be underneath the Zoom outfit, which most fans believed would be revealed in the season finale. Last night's episode, King Shark, proved to be a game-changer, revealing Zoom's true identity in quite shocking fashion, and Entertainment Weekly spoke to executive producer Andrew Kreisberg to get some insight into this reveal. If you didn't watch King Shark yet, there will be SPOILERS below, so read on at your own risk.

The man behind the Zoom mask turned out to be Hunter Zolomon, a.k.a. Jay Garrick (Teddy Sears). Many fans theorized that Earth-2 Jay Garrick could be Zoom, since his Earth-1 doppleganger was Hunter Zolomon, Zoom's same alter-ego from the comic books. However, this raises a few questions, since the Earth-1 Hunter arrived with no powers, leading some to question how he's been able to go back and forth between Earth-1 and Earth-2. Unfortunately, Andrew Kreisberg said those details will all be revealed after the show returns from its hiatus on Tuesday, March 22.

"Zoom's identity has been revealed: He is Hunter Zolomon, a.k.a Jay Garrick. How all of that plays out and what's actually happening, we'll leave for after the break. But we wanted to go out on this run of episodes with a big reveal, just the same way we did at the end of episode 9 in season 1, where we revealed that Harrison Wells was the man in the yellow suit. Zoom's identity is finally revealed. It's an even larger betrayal than last year in some ways, because they're all going to feel like they should've been inoculated against it. 'Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.' They let this person in. Part of the reason he was able to do that was because there was a hole in the center of their group, and he knew that. He was able to step in because they wanted it so desperately. Barry was missing his mentor, Wells, and here comes Jay offering to be his mentor. Caitlin had lost Ronnie, and then here comes Jay offering to be her new knight in shinning armor."

This reveal mirrors last season, where someone close to Barry Allen is actually trying to kill him, although it came much later than last season. Harrison Wells' Reverse Flash reveal happened in episode 9, but Barry Allen himself didn't find out until the end of that season. Andrew Kreisberg also addressed the irony of this situation, since the Earth-2 version of Harrison Wells often told Team Flash that Jay Garrick couldn't be trusted. Here's what he had to say about how Team Flash could be duped once again.

"The irony, of course, is the one person who has been saying, 'Don't trust this guy! Don't trust this guy! Don't trust this guy!' has been Harry, who's the one that none of them trusted. For us, there was all of this great, delicious irony to the whole thing. It happens in a way that didn't make them look stupid, that the reason he was able to manipulate them was because he was playing on their emotions. It wasn't because they were gullible. They actually took precautions in the beginning - Barry locked him up right away - but all of them had that need for a center and for a new star to right their ships by. Jay's one charming, smooth guy and he was able to manipulate them in that way."

Now that the villain's identity has been revealed, one of the show's other big mysteries is the identity of the mystery man, locked in an iron mask in Zoom's dungeon. It isn't known when that mystery will be solved, but the producer teased that will help drive the story for the rest of the season. Here's what he had to say below.

"The identity of the man in the [iron] mask is, in some ways, probably an even bigger surprise than this one, if you can imagine it. It's a new mystery to pull you through the season. Barry swore he wasn't going to leave him behind. Something tells me Barry's going to make good on that promise."

How do you think this season will play out for Team Flash? How do you think the reveal of Hunter Zolomon/Jay Garrick will shape the rest of this season? Fans will have a lot of time to contemplate these queries, since the show is going on a brief hiatus until Tuesday, March 22. Stay tuned for more updates on The Flash.
