Yesterday, new Fear the Walking Dead photos were released, with series creator Robert Kirkman offering new details on the four main characters, played by Kim Dickens, Cliff Curtis, Alycia Debnam Carey and Frank Dillane. We know that Fear the Walking Dead will be set in Los Angeles, far from The Walking Dead survivors on the East Coast, and that the series will begin just before the zombie apocalypse starts spreading throughout the world, as opposed to The Walking Dead, which starts a few months after the apocalypse has taken hold, when Rick wakes up from his coma. Today, Robert Kirkman offered more details, revealing that the show will highlight how people react to the zombie invasion.

"We're very early. But if you think about the way a zombie outbreak would happen, it would happen very organically. It would be happening for a while behind the scenes. In pockets of civilization, there would be news stories that didn't really make sense and didn't seem connected. And that's kind of where we pick things up. There are a lot of things on the news, there's a lot of chatter and paranoia and concern. And yet the vast majority of the population is ignoring these things and talking about their daily lives, and that's kind of where we pick things up. And things ramp up very quickly from there."

Since both shows are set so far apart, it's very unlikely that both these sets of characters will ever cross paths. Robert Kirkman did add that the show's timeline will "allign" to the early seasons of The Walking Dead, clarifying that this companion series is not a prequel to the original show.

"You've almost tricked me into saying too much! I will say that it will definitely progress. I will say that I don't consider this show to be a prequel to The Walking Dead, because there will be a point where a certain episode of this show will line up with season 2 of The Walking Dead, and a certain episode of this show will line up with season 3 of The Walking Dead. So we will be progressing through time to the point that we do pass the initial days of the outbreak. But how fast it is that we get there? That's just going to have to remain a mystery."

Of course, it isn't known how this alignment will take place, but both shows are following a similar path to the small screen. Both The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead's first seasons will be just six episodes long, before expanding to 13 episodes in the second season. Fear the Walking Dead will debut in late summer on AMC, but the network hasn't announced a premiere date yet, so stay tuned for that.
