We reported a few days ago that Disney might be expanding its Tron Legacy universe into the small screen and now that news has been confirmed. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney announced an animated TV series that would follow the theatrical release of Tron Legacy, which is slated for a December 17 release.

It was said that the series would be aimed at children ages 6-14 and that this will be a 10-part micro-series, which will air on the new channel Disney XD in the fall of 2011.

"Tron is another example of how we can take advantage of the intellectual property that the studio unit pays tens, if not hundreds, of millions to develop and market," said Marsh.

Tron Legacy, directed by Joseph Kosinski, stars Garrett Hedlund, Jeff Bridges, Bruce Boxleitner, Olivia Wilde, Beau Garrett, Michael Sheen and will be released in theaters nationwide on December 17.
