In a story from The Hollywood Reporter, Michael Mann (Public Enemies) has picked pals Dennis Farina and John Ortiz to star in Luck. The show is a horse-racing drama pilot for HBO that he is working on with David Milch (Deadwood).

The project is being called "a provocative look at the worlds of horse racing and gambling told through a diverse group of characters surrounding a racetrack."

Luck follows Ace Bernstain, who, after doing a three year stretch in prison, joins forces with Gus Economou (Farina), his longtime chauffeur, to put together a complex plan involving the track. They hire Turo Escalante (Ortiz), a popular trainer with a bad reputation.

Milch penned the pilot, which Mann is going to direct. Both are executive producing this project.
