Fans are gearing up to see the new Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance prequel series on Netflix this week, and it seems we're getting an even better insight into the imaginative and beautiful world in two new books: The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance-inside the Epic Return to Thra and The World of Dark Crystal.
Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance-inside the Epic Return to Thra reveals the incredible creative process behind the new Dark Crystal series with an all-access look at the show's journey to the screen. The book is filled with cast and crew interviews, concept art, set photography, puppet designs, and more, allowing fans to explore the epic world.
It picks apart Thra by detailing how producer Lisa Henson and visionary director Louis Letterier were able to bring legendary character and costume designer Brian Froud and the world-renowned Jim Henson's Creature Shop's groundbreaking designs to life. Written by Daniel Wallace, with a foreword from Lisa Henson, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance-inside the Epic Return to Thra will be available on November 5, 2019.
Brian Froud created the characters, creatures and locations used by directors Jim Henson and Frank Oz in the cult-classic film The Dark Crystal. After the success of the puppet animated dark fantasy, Froud and Henson joined together again to create the book, The World of the Dark Crystal which showcased the unique conceptual artwork, as well as detailed the lore of the magical world of Thra.
Now, for the first time in over 15 years, The World of the Dark Crystal is back in print. With this canonical classic, fans can delve into the creation of the film through the lore of Henson's beloved masterpiece and the evocative illustrations from the original film's concept designer. Readers have access to the striking artwork and bonus material from the 2003 collector's edition including an essay by Froud on the creative process of making the film and a look at the booklet Froud and Henson used to present to the film's early financial backers. The World of the Dark Crystal is set to release in October 2019.
Using a powerful team of artists and puppeteers, filmmakers are continuing the legacy of the 1982 film from Henson and Frank Oz in a new series. From the Jim Henson Company, Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance is set to premiere on Netflix on August 30. The series, Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance is set many years before the events of The Dark Crystal.
