ABC's Once Upon a Time spin-off Once Upon a Time in Wonderland has added Lost star Naveen Andrews, who made a surprise appearance at the show's Comic-Con 2013 panel this morning.

The actor will play Jafar, the villain from Disney's 1992 animated hit Aladdin. The casting marks Naveen Andrews first U.S. TV role since Lost went off the air in 2010. Here's what the actor had to say in a brief statement.

"I'm proud and thrilled to be back with ABC on an exciting and unique new show! This role will be a real departure from any animated versions because of the layered emotions and complexities involved with making him a real three-dimensional character."

While it isn't immediately clear how many episodes the actor will appear in, showrunner and co-creator Edward Kitsis said that Jafar will make his presence known in the series premiere, which we reported this week will debut on Thursday, October 10 at 8 PM ET. Here's what Edward Kitsis had to say about holding off on the news until Comic-Con.

"We absolutely had this character in mind and we knew we wanted Naveen to play it. We asked him he said yes and we said lets save it for Comic-Con ... it's going to be very frightening."
