Cobra Kai season 3 is going to take Daniel LaRusso back to some familiar territory. The cast and crew of the popular YouTube series took over San Diego Comic-Con for a panel to discuss the upcoming season 3 and the past events of season 2. Ralph Macchio and William Zabka received huge welcomes from the enthusiastic crowd who were waiting for more spoilers about the upcoming third season. With that being said, the cast was able to give a little bit away, but shied away from revealing too much.

Ralph Macchio's Daniel LaRusso will be heading back to Japan for the first time since The Karate Kid 2. "We will see Daniel LaRusso return to Okinawa," revealed Cobra Kai producer Josh Heald while speaking about the show at SDCC. Okinawa is the birthplace of Mr. Miyagi, so we could see LaRusso going back to seek guidance after what happened to Miguel (Xolo Mariduena) at the conclusion of season 2. As for whether or not Miguel will return to Cobra Kai, Mariduena believes that he will, noting that the bond his character has with Johnny Lawrence is too strong. Macchio had this to say about Cobra Kai season 3.

"For season 3, something I can tease is that, albeit we have a lot of cleaning up to do based on the events of season 2, some of the stories will dive into the origins of both Miyagi-Do Karate and Cobra Kai. Like, the beginnings of those two forms of martial arts, and we'll learn stuff about both that we never knew. And that includes LaRusso going to Okinawa, which is a piece of season 3."

Ralph Macchio and William Zabka were also asked if they have spoken with Elisabeth Shue to star in Cobra Kai season 3. However, they both note that they have not at this time. Many fans are under the impression Shue's Ali Mills character will be returning after the events of season 2, but that has yet to be confirmed. Shue's character has been talked about quite a bit over the first two seasons of the hit YouTube show, so it definitely would not be a shock to see her reunite with The Karate Kid cast.

Cobra Kai showrunners Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald took some time to explain that Hilary Swank's Julie Pierce from The Next Karate Kid is also part of the Cobra Kai world. This is something they have all pointed out before, leading more than a few to speculate about Swank coming on board for a cameo too. Whatever the case may be, season 3 is beginning to look pretty interesting in terms of looking back at The Karate Kid legacy and its different incarnations.

As far as returning to Japan for Cobra Kai season 3, there have been some subtle hints laid out. With that being said, the main hint was given in season 2 when Tanner Buchanan's Robby pull out the den-den daiko toy drum from The Karate Kid 2. He begins to play with it and Daniel LaRusso notes that the "toy" in question saved his life once. While not much is clear about the upcoming third season, one can easily see the den-den daiko toy drum making a prominent return. Eentertainment Weekly was the first to report about Cobra Kai season 3.
