HBO's Boardwalk Empire ended its five-year run earlier this year after a truncated, eight-episode season, with a finale that fans are still talking about two months later. Be warned, there will be SPOILERS below if you haven't caught up with the last few episodes yet, so read on at your own risk. Mark Wahlberg, who served as executive producer on the series, has revealed in a new interview with Ralphie Tonight, that he wants to bring the critically-acclaimed series to the big screen. Here's what the actor/producer had to say, adding that he wants to convince Martin Scorsese to direct the potential feature.

"My next goal now is to get the movie made and start talking to Martin Scorsese about directing it."

Martin Scorsese directed the pilot episode of Boardwalk Empire, which was created by Terence Winter, with the director taking home an Emmy Award for Best Direction in a Drama Series. It isn't known if Boardwalk Empire series creator Terence Winter will be involved with a movie, but if it does happen, it wouldn't be the first time Mark Wahlberg has brought an HBO TV series to the big screen. He produced Warner Bros.' highly-anticipated Entourage, which hits theaters in June.

When asked if Steve Buscemi's Nucky Thompson will return for the movie, after being killed in the series finale, Mark Wahlberg hinted that it may be a prequel, or feature flashback elements to include the beloved character.

"We can always go back."

It's worth noting that the final season of Boardwalk Empire featured actor Marc Pickering as a young Nucky Thompson, so it's possible that the movie could bring him back as well. Would you like to see a Boardwalk Empire movie? Chime in with your thoughts below.
