Netflix has once again stepped in to bring someone back to television that we have all wanted to see back for quite some time. It was announced by the streaming service today that Bill Nye is getting a brand new talk show called Bill Nye Saves the World. The show marks the first time the famed scientist has hosted a TV show since Bill Nye the Science Guy in the 90s, which ran for five seasons.

Netflix made the announcement this morning via a press release and stated that the show would debut in Spring of 2017. Bill Nye Saves The World will focus on science, with each episode tackling a topic from a scientific point of view, dispelling myths, and refuting anti-scientific claims that may be refuted by politicians, religious leaders or titans of industry. Here is what Bill Nye had to say about the show.

"Since the start of the Science Guy show, I've been on a mission to change the world by getting people everywhere excited about the fundamental ideas in science. Today, I'm excited to be working with Netflix on a new show, where we'll discuss the complex scientific issues facing us today, with episodes on vaccinations, genetically modified foods and climate change. With the right science and good writing, we'll do our best to enlighten and entertain our audience. And, perhaps we'll change the world a little."

On each episode of the show, Nye will bring on special guests, conduct experiments and demonstrations, and let the facts lead the argument. Even though Nye hasn't hosted a show since Bill Nye the Science Guy went off the air in 1998, he has continued to be a huge presence, using his massive social media following and things like YouTube, writing and podcasting, to preach science literacy. He also regularly guests on talk shows and tours the country giving speeches at colleges and theaters, often times with famed astrophysicist Neil Degrasse Tyson.

Bill Nye the Science Guy ran for five seasons on PBS, and was also syndicated to local stations during its run. That show was nominated for a very impressive 23 Emmy Awards, and won 19 of them. Netflix didn't reveal how many episodes the first season of Bill Nye Saves The World will consist of, or how it will be released. Most of the time, Netflix releases every episode of a season at the same time, but Chelsea Handler's show Chelsea runs three nights a week, with episodes coming out on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. It is possible Nye's new show could go that route.

Bill Nye Saves the World is being produced by Bunim/Murray Productions. Gil Goldschein and Julie Pizzi are Executive Producing the show. Michael Naidus of The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson will serve as showrunner and Executive Producer. Writer and standup comedian Mike Drucker is serving as Head Comedy Writer; and, astronomer, author and award-winning science communicator Phil Plait is serving as Head Science Writer. Netflix did not announce a specific premiere date, but we will be sure to keep you posted.
