HBO has released a trailer for Big Little Lies season 2 and the guilt is starting to tear the Monterey 5 apart. The new footage shows the aftermath of season 1 while showing the women trying to move forward with their normal day-to-day lives. However, things are not going very well for any of them. Madeline (Reese Witherspoon), Celeste (Nicole Kidman), Jane (Shailene Woodley), Renata (Laura Dern), and Bonnie (Zoe Kravitz) are all struggling to keep it together.

The Big Little Lies season 2 trailer is full of teases, but it stops the quick cuts in favor of a startling scene between Nicole Kidman's Celeste character with her ex-mother-in-law, played by Meryl Streep. After the events of season 1, Streep's character is in town to figure out the mystery surrounding her son's death. Streep is shown bluntly interrogating Kidman and it's a rather chilling scene as Kidman's Celeste realizes her mother-in-law knows a lot more than she was originally revealing about everything.

The ghost is haunting the Monterey 5 and as Reese Witherspoon's Madeline says in the trailer, "I can just see the damage that it's done and it's just eroding every single one of us," which is a massive understatement. While fans of the original limited series were not initially happy to hear about a season 2, (the first season is based on the entirety of Liane Moriarty's novel of the same name) the latest look at Big Little Lies may change some minds from those who felt the story was all over and nothing else could be brought to the surface. There is definitely more story to tell.

Liane Moriarty was hired to continue the story for Big Little Lies season 2 and as more footage is revealed, it seems she was able to come up with an intriguing story arc, which should make for a popular season, especially with Meryl Streep on board. Moriarty and HBO are reportedly pretty happy with the results, so it's going to be very interesting to see how fans react now that the show is close to debuting its second season. In addition to Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern, and Zoe Kravitz, season 2 also sees the return of Adam Scott, James Tupper, Jeffrey Nordling, Iain Armitage, Kathryn Newton, Robin Weigert, Sarah Sokolovic, and Merrin Dungey.

Big Little Lies season 2 is all set to premiere on June 9th with seven brand-new episodes. HBO is going to have a pretty big gap in the next few weeks when Game of Thrones comes to a close and Big Little Lies is expected to bring in some strong ratings, along with the upcoming Deadwood movie and the Watchmen series debuting in the fall.
