After the enormous backlash that followed Ben Affleck landing the Batman role in Batman Vs. Superman, one has to wonder how the fans will react to this latest rumor. Sources claim that Ben Affleck wants his Brentwood, CA neighbor, Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm creator Larry David, to play Mr. Mxyzptlk in this highly-anticipated sequel.

Here's what an unidentified insider had to say, claiming that the actor's clout may even lead to a producer's credit on director Zack Snyder's sequel.

"The pair chatted about the idea with earnest abandon throughout the course of Emmy weekend. Larry has long been courted by the big budget superhero industrial complex, being linked to roles in the Sam Raimi's Spider-Man sequels nearly a decade ago. But Ben is somebody he trusts and enjoys spending time with and this could be the right situation for Larry to finally appear in a huge-grossing hit film. Fun speculation that it could be for the famed Superman enemy role of Mr. Mxyzptlk could make this piece more exciting, since Larry is a dead ringer for the character. Ben and his personality are taking over this whole production - he could come out of this with a producer credit."

This is the first we've heard of Mr. Mxyzptlk being mentioned as a villain in the sequel. The character, created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, made his first appearance in Superman #30 in September 1944. He hails from a mysterious "fifth dimension" and often torments Superman with various pranks and tricks. In the comic books, he can only be "stopped" by a dose of his own medicine, so to speak. If he is tricked into saying or spelling his own name backwards, the villain is involuntarily sent back to his home dimension for at least 90 days. Larry David most recently starred in The Three Stooges and the HBO TV movie Clear History.

The villain we've heard mentioned the most in regards to this sequel is Lex Luthor, a role which Mark Strong and Bryan Cranston were rumored to be attached to and/or interested in. Of course, we don't even know for sure if Luthor is the main villain or not.

In related news, we've heard several intriguing rumors over the past few months regarding the mysterious female lead in Batman Vs. Superman. One report revealed that Ben Affleck's Batman will get a new love interest, while a casting call hinted that Wonder Woman may be a part of the story. A new report reveals that Warner Bros. has narrowed their search down to four candidates for the female lead role, although the actresses names were not revealed.

While nothing has been confirmed yet, insiders believe that this mysterious role is not Wonder Woman, but is Bruce Wayne's girlfriend. Since nothing has been confirmed, it is possible that Wonder Woman herself may be Batman's new love interest, especially given Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara's recent comment that the studio needs to put Wonder Woman in a movie of TV series.

Screenwriter David S. Goyer revealed last month that development is further along than most people think it is, but it still isn't known when shooting will begin.

What do you think about all these new developments? Would Larry David make a good Mr. Mxyzptlk? Do you want to see Wonder Woman in this highly-anticipated sequel? Let us know!
