The casting for an upcoming NBC reboot keeps moving along smoothly, with an actor coming aboard to play the title character's father. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Beau Bridges has joined the cast of The Rockford Files remake at NBC.

Bridges will play Rocky, the father of Dermot Mulroney's Jim Rockford, a truck driver who is always quick to help his son out in a bind, even though the son doesn't always appreciate his father's advice. Bridges joins a cast that includes Mulroney as the title character and Alan Tudyk as well, who will play Detective Dennis Becker, Rockford's only friend on the police force.

David Shore, who created the Fox hit series House, wrote the pilot for the reboot. The original The Rockford Files series ran from 1974 to 1980. Coincidentally, this is the second time Bridges is portraying the father of an NBC title character: he played Carl, father to Jason Lee's Earl on the comedy series My Name is Earl.
