Are You Afraid of the Dark? is soon returning to Nickelodeon for a limited series run, and the official trailer has been released by the network. Those who remember watching the original horror anthology series from the '90s should appreciate seeing the classic series revived for a new generation, and the trailer definitely has the same atmosphere as the original show. Previously, it was reported that Nickelodeon was bring the show back as a limited series starting on Oct. 11, and you can now watch the official trailer for the Are You Afraid of the Dark? TV revival below.

The cast of the rebooted series includes Sam Ashe Arnold (Best. Worst. Weekend. Ever.) as Gavin, Miya Cech (Rim of the World) as Akiko, Tamara Smart (The Worst Witch) as Louise, Jeremy Ray Taylor (It and It: Chapter Two) as Graham, and Lyliana Wray (Top Gun: Maverick) as Rachel, making up the new members of the Midnight Society. Rafael Casal (Blindspotting) has also been cast as The Carnival of Doom's ringmaster, Mr. Tophat. As a limited series event, the story appears to follow one linear story rather than presenting a new tale each week like the original series.

In the trailer, Rachel is depicted as a newcomer to the group, introducing herself as a part of the Midnight Society with the story, The Carnival of Doom. The spooky carnival from her story then makes its way to the Midnight Society's town for real, and the kids quickly realize it's somehow the very same place Rachel dreamed up. They appear to formulate a plan to put an end to the madness, and whether or not that's successful, there will clearly be some jump scares along the way. For the fans of the original series, the trailer closes out with a shot of someone holding a lit match under the Are You Afraid of the Dark? title.

It was previously announced that a feature film adaptation of Are You Afraid of the Dark? was also in the works from Paramount Players, and it was reported to release this October. Written by It screenwriter Gary Dauberman, Matt Kaplan was set to produce with D.J. Caruso directing. However, earlier this year, it was reported that Paramount was removing the movie from their release schedule, postponing the project indefinitely. It's possible there may be interest in resuming production on the planned movie if the limited series on Nickelodeon turns out to be a hit, but as of this time it looks like the Are You Afraid of the Dark? movie is dead in the water.

Are You Afraid of the Dark? returns to Nickelodeon when the limited series premieres on Oct. 11. While nothing is guaranteed, the network may consider ordering more episodes to extend the series if enough people are watching. We'll see if the nostalgia for the classic series remains strong in 2019. The new Are You Afraid of the Dark? reboot trailer comes to us from NickRewind on YouTube.
