The CW Announces 2017 Arrowverse Crossover Premiere Dates

By Brian Gallagher — August 2nd, 2017

During The CW's presentation at the TCA summer tour, the network unveiled the dates for its annual Arrowverse crossover, but this year will be much more condensed. Last year, the crossover spanned all four nights of the network's superhero lineup, starting with Supergirl on Monday, The Flash on Tuesday, Arrow on Wednesday and Legends of Tomorrow on Thursday, but this year the crossover has been shrunk to a two-night affair with a two-hour block each night. The episodes will air Monday, November 27 and Tuesday, November 28 on The CW this fall.

Deadline reports that on the Monday, November 27 episode, Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) will team up with Arrow (Stephen Amell), marking a one-night-only move to Mondays for Arrow, which is switching to Thursday nights at 9 PM this season, following Supernatural. Then on Tuesday, November 28, The Flash (Grant Gustin) will cross over to Legends of Tomorrow, which makes sense since they both air on Tuesday nights starting this season, with The Flash airing at 8 PM ET and Legends airing at 9 PM ET. Here's what The CW Network president Mark Pedowitz had to say about their approach to this year's crossovers.

"Last year's (crossover) was the most successful week in CW history in terms of ratings and everything. We felt in this particular case we had Flash on Legends paired, so it was better to make it two two-hour movies, a miniseries, we thought this was the best way to go. We had a lot of conversations with producers and marketing people. Next year, we might go back to four nights."

When The CW fall schedule was announced in May, some fans were surprised that The Flash and Legends were paired together, with Arrow moving to Thursdays at 9, with the long-running Supernatural as its lead-in. This freed up the network to create a whole new non-superhero block on Wednesdays, with Riverdale returning for its second season in the 8 PM time slot, followed by the new drama series Dynasty. The network will also be bringing in another superhero show in mid-season, Black Lightning, so the schedule may change yet again. Mark Pedowitz added that Supergirl "really found its groove" on The CW, after debuting its first season on CBS, and had this to say about The Flash and Legends.

"It's about finding the lightness in Barry Allen that he had in the first two seasons. As far as Legends, they had a rough first season, but they had the most fun second season anyone could have."

Last year, The CW also aired an additional musical crossover between The Flash and Supergirl, which featured Kara and Barry transported back in time to a 1920s nightclub owned by the mob. It hasn't been confirmed if The CW is planning an additional spin-off for this upcoming season. The CW premiere dates announced in June revealed that Supergirl will kick off The CW's season with its Season 3 premiere on Monday, October 9 at 8 PM, followed by the new series Valor at 9 PM. The Flash Season 4 premiere debuts Tuesday, October 10 at 9 PM ET with the Legends of Tomorrow Season 3 premiere following that same night at 9 PM, with Arrow Season 6 kicking off Thursday, October 12. Hopefully we'll find out more about this Arrowverse crossover as we get closer to these hit superhero shows returning to The CW.
