Watch the First 6 Minutes of Fox's X-Men Spin-Off Gifted

By Brian Gallagher — September 28th, 2017

Fox has unleashed the first six minutes of the highly-anticipated fall series The Gifted, which premieres Monday, October 2 at 9 PM ET on Fox. This clip introduces fans to the powerful mutant Blink (Jamie Chung), who uses her unique abilities to escape from the police who are chasing her. If you would rather not know about what happens in the first six minutes of The Gifted premiere, then you should stop reading now because there will be SPOILERS for the contents in the video below.

This action-adventure family drama tells the story of a suburban couple whose ordinary lives are rocked by the sudden discovery that their children possess mutant powers. The family in question is the Struckers, Kate (Amy Acker), Reed (Stephen Moyer) and kids Andy (Percy Hynes White) and Lauren (Natalie Alyn Lind), although we don't quite get to meet them yet in this clip. Eventually, they are forced to go on the run from a hostile government, leading them to join an underground network of mutants to survive. The first six minutes focuses on three of these mutants, Eclipse (Sean Teale), Polaris (Emma Dumont), and Thunderbird (Blair Redford), who use their mutant abilities to track down Blink. Their plan doesn't exactly go well for all involved, though, with this video showing that this series gets off to quite the explosive start.

The video also teases that Blink escaped from a mutant holding facility, but it also shows that she doesn't quite have a complete handle on her abilities yet, which allow her to create portals to teleport from. We also get brief glimpses of the other mutants powers, with Proudstar using his tracking abilities to find her, while Eclipse uses his blinding light to distract the cops and Polaris, who has the same magnetic abilities as her father in the comic books, Magneto. It hasn't been confirmed if her father will be brought up much in the series, but it's clear from this video that she possesses the same powerful skills.

While this video just shows these young mutants trying to flee the local Atlanta cops, there are much greater forces that are trying to track down all mutants, which includes Agent Jace Turner (Coby Bell), although we don't get to see him either in this video. While the Struckers will flee from this government agency, their plight is complicated since Reed serves as a District Attorney's Office prosecutor tasked with bringing in mutants, although that was before he learned his own children are mutants. It has also been confirmed that, like most Marvel movie and TV productions, there will in fact be a Stan Lee cameo, although no details about his appearance have been given quite yet.

The first Gifted trailer released in May was quite the hit with X-Men fans, amassing a whopping 31 million views in the first day of release. Other cast members include Elena Satine, who guest stars on the show's second episode as Dreamer, described as a mutant with the ability to add or subtract memories, with Garret Dillahunt set to recur on the series as Roderick Campbell, a mutant researcher with Sentinel Services, described as "professorial, intense and intimidating, who is hiding a "morally dubious mission" from everyone. The Gifted was created by Matt Nix (Burn Notice, APB), who executive produces with Bryan Singer, who directed the pilot episode, and Lauren Shuler Donner, Simon Kinberg, Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory.
