Game of Thrones and Westworld Are Set for Comic-Con 2017

By Brian Gallagher — June 29th, 2017

HBO announced today that it is bringing two of its most celebrated shows to Comic-Con, the long-running fantasy series Game of Thrones, which kicks off its seventh season Sunday, July 16 at 9 PM ET, and Westworld, which starts filming its second season soon. The Game of Thrones Season 7 panel will take place Friday, July 21 at 1:30 PM PT in Hall H, while the Westworld Season 2 panel will take place Saturday, July 22 at 4:15 PM. Here's the official description of the Game of Thrones panel, revealing what cast members will be present.

"The Game of Thrones panel in Hall H at 1:30 p.m. will be moderated by a special guest from Westeros. Panelists include cast members (in alphabetical order) Alfie Allen (Theon Greyjoy), Jacob Anderson (Grey Worm), John Bradley (Samwell Tarly), Gwendoline Christie (Brienne of Tarth), Liam Cunningham (Ser Davos Seaworth), Nathalie Emmanuel (Missandei), Isaac Hempstead Wright (Bran Stark), Conleth Hill (Varys) and Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark). Autograph signing is at 3:30 p.m."

Since this panel will take place just before the second episode of the season, it's possible that the cast may give fans a special treat, and debut this episode a few days early, but that's only speculation. This will be the first time that the show has been airing during its Comic-Con panel, since the show typically aired its 10-episode seasons from April to June, but this season, filming started later since the production required a colder climate. "The Westworld panel in Hall H at 4:15 p.m. will be moderated by internationally renowned vocal artist, beatboxer, musician and comedian Reggie Watts. Panelists include: creators and showrunners Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy; and cast members (in alphabetical order) Ben Barnes (Logan), Ingrid Bolso Berdal (Armistice), Ed Harris (Man in Black), Luke Hemsworth (Stubbs), James Marsden (Teddy), Thandie Newton (Maeve), Simon Quarterman (Lee Sizemore), Rodrigo Santoro (Hector), Angela Sarafyan (Clementine), Jimmi Simpson (William), Tessa Thompson (Charlotte), Evan Rachel Wood (Dolores), Shannon Woodward (Elsie) and Jeffrey Wright (Bernard/Arnold). Autograph signing is at 5:45 p.m."

HBO renewed Westworld in November, with a report from earlier this month revealing that production begins on Westworld Season 2 on July 10, on location in Utah and California. After production delays due to script rewrites during the first season, HBO reportedly wanted to wait until all of the Season 2 episodes were written before starting production on this 10-episode season. HBO hasn't revealed a premiere date, but given the complex nature of the production, it's possible that the new season may not arrive until late 2017, or possibly early 2018. It's also possible that HBO will announce a premiere date during this panel, but since this panel will happen just days after filming started, there may not be any footage to share with the Hall H fans. Regardless, both of these panels will be some of the biggest events at this year's Comic-Con, and hopefully we'll have even more details soon.
