Emilia Clarke Makes Drastic Game of Thrones Season 8 Commitment

By Brian Gallagher — September 19th, 2017

With Game of Thrones gearing up for production on its final season, one of the show's biggest stars made quite an important revelation. Throughout the past seven seasons, Emilia Clarke has worn a blonde wig to portray Daenerys Targaryen on the hit series, but for the final season, the actress decided to fully commit, and dye her hair blonde. Here's what the actress had to say about the big commitment on social media. Be warned, if you haven't caught up with Game of Thrones through Season 7, there will be SPOILERS below, so read on at your own risk.

"AAAAHHHHHHH SHHHHIIIII****** I done did it. Mother of dragons meet Emilia. Emilia meet mother of dragons. If you squint just so you might never know. All hail to the magnificence of @kevalexanderhair and @candicebanks74 the genius creators of 'KHALEESI WIG' (and not forgetting all the hair on game of thrones for 8 glorious years) for at long last making this magical moment a reality. #khaleesikicksoff #gameofthrones #cominghomeneverfeltsogood"

The actress also posted a photo on Emilia Clarke Instagram, offering our first look at the fully blonde Khaleesi. It's worth noting that Sophie Turner had her hair dyed red for the first six seasons, before switching to a wig last season, which some fans called out on social media. It remains to be seen if Sophie Turner will ditch the wig and go back to her normal routine for the final season of Game of Thrones. While there still isn't much we know about this final season, we learned just yesterday that there will be at least two new characters joining the fold.

A Game of Thrones casting call surfaced yesterday, which revealed that the show is currently casting two young characters, a "Northern girl" who the producers want to be between eight and 10 years old, and another boy who will be between eight and 12 years old. The "Northern girl" is said to be raised by a family full of fearless warriors, but it doesn't mention specifically which Northern house she will hail from. The Season 7 finale showed the Night King, atop his resurrected dragon, taking down The Wall at Eastwatch, allowing his white walker army to walk into Westeros unencumbered. It's possible that this Northern girl could come from a family in the far North that we haven't seen yet, who could be one of the Night King's early victims in Season 8. As for the boy, since no ethnicity was specified, it's possible he could be from King's Landing, but there isn't much to go on at this point.

HBO programming president Casey Bloys also revealed last week that there will be multiple Game of Thrones endings shot during production of the series finale, so even the cast and crew members won't truly know how the show will end, until the finale airs on HBO. Since the show is so far past the George R.R. Martin books, and there is no publication date announced yet for the long-awaited final two books, fans will likely be kept as much in the dark as possible about these final episodes. There have been rumors that each of the six final episodes may be feature-length, like the Season 7 finale, which clocked in at just under 80 minutes, the longest episode in series history.
