American Horror Story Season 7 Trailer Unleashes a Cult of Creepy Clowns

By Ryan Scott — July 22nd, 2017

The mystery surrounding American Horror Story season 7 is starting to unravel. Or, given this show's bizarre history, maybe it is just starting to get tangled up a bit tighter. Either way, the upcoming season of AHS has an official title and a teaser, courtesy of San Diego Comic-Con. The new season is officially titled American Horror Story: Cult and the first teaser is packed with creepy clowns. Is that a not-so-subtle metaphor of some kind given that this season is said to be inspired by the recent presidential election?

FX brought the teaser to San Diego Comic-Con this year in style. Instead of just showing it, they projected the creepy and bizarre trailer on a massive wall of water by a floating barge at the marina behind the convention center. The teaser then made its way online, both on YouTube and via a newly launched, mysterious website; ahs7.com. The site takes you to various pages. This teasers page is called "week one" and the other seven weeks are locked currently. So it looks like we're in for a bit of a long tease from FX again this year.

As per usual, things are being kept under a pretty tight lock and key by creator Ryan Murphy for American Horror Story season 7. Some of the regular players from the series will be returning in the form of Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters. Additionally, American Horror Story: Cult is bringing in newcomers Colton Haynes, Leslie Grossman, Billie Lourd and Billy Eichner. Adina Porter and Cheyenne Jackson from American Horror Story: Roanoke are also on board for this season. It was recently announced that Girls star Lena Dunham is involved, but she is only going to appear in one episode.

Despite the lack of actual details on American Horror Story season 7, FX is still giving us a little bit more to chew on at this point than they did last season. American Horror Story: Roanoke was truly a mystery up until the season actually started and that truly frustrated some fans, given all of the nonsensical teasers that were released beforehand. At least this time, we know what is inspiring season 7. We also know that no actors are actually going to portray Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton, even though the season is inspired by the recent election.

American Horror Story season 7 is currently slated to premiere on September 5 and FX has already renewed the horror anthology series through season 9, so we will be getting a couple more seasons at least before Ryan Murphy calls it quits. The show is also confirmed to have a major presence at this year's Halloween Horror Nights, as it has in recent years past. You can check out the teaser for American Horror Story: Cult for yourself below as well as a video showing the marina display at San Diego Comic-Con.
