FX has unveiled a brand new teaser for American Horror Story Season 9, which is titled AHS: 1984. As per usual, at this point creator Ryan Murphy and the network are being incredibly vague in terms of what to expect from season 9 of the hit anthology series. However, we know Murphy is going to be taking on the slasher horror genre and, if it wasn't already obvious this year was going to be big on the Friday the 13th vibes, this latest trailer makes it inescapably clear.

The teaser kicks off with a group of teenagers, presumably camp counselors, on their way to Camp Redwood, which is meant to mirror Jason's stomping grounds, Camp Crystal Lake. They're being rowdy and irresponsible, as one might expect from a group of 80s teenagers, drinking, driving and listening to loud music. As they drive past the Camp Redwood sign, the horror begins the take shape. The back side of the sign reads "Beware" and we then notice that a masked figure with a knife is hanging onto the underside of one of the vehicles, much like Sideshow Bob in The Simpsons episode Cape Feare, which, itself, was a riff on Martin Scorsese's Cape Fear.

We then transition to the lakeside, where all of the campers are having a wonderful time. Footballs are being tossed around. People are swimming. It's all good and well. That is until the same masked, knife-wielding figure from before emerges from the water to stab a poor, unsuspecting girl in a canoe. This very much mirrors the end of the original Friday the 13th when Jason Voorhees emerges from the lake, setting up the events of the sequels. While no synopsis has been revealed, FX did share this little tagline.

"Welcome to Camp Redwood. Good luck leaving alive"

AHS has tackled a number of different genres in previous years. However, it looks like this is going to be a little stripped-down, when compared to what has come our way in previous years. The stakes can't be nearly as high as they were in something like Apocalypse. Though, this should help fill the void for those who are sad Jason hasn't made his way to the big screen in a decade, thanks to the ongoing lawsuit regarding the Friday the 13th franchise.

The cast for this season includes several familiar faces, such as Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, John Carroll Lynch, Leslie Grossman and Cody Fer. Ryan Murphy is also bringing some newcomers that he's worked with on his other shows, including Matthew Morrison (Glee) and Angelica Ross (Pose). Plus, rather interestingly, Olympic freestyle skier Gus Kenworthy is on board. It's been teased that series regular Sarah Paulson may appear this season, just in a reduced role. American Horror Story: 1984 is set to debut on September 18. Be sure to check out the new teaser from the FX Networks YouTube channel for yourself.
