Just one year after bringing Kiefer Sutherland's Jack Bauer back with the event series 24: Live Another Day, Fox is taking a different approach to the franchise, developing a 24 Spin-Off that will feature a new male lead in his 20s hunting down deadly terrorists. The network wants to bring Kiefer Sutherland back to guest star throughout the new series. Executive producer Howard Gordon confirmed the project is in the works at last night's Critics Choice Television Awards.

The spinoff series will follow this new male lead antihero who works alongside a veteran female agent. This female agent will not be Yvonne Strahovski's Kate Morgan, but it's possible that her character could come back in the currently-untitled spinoff series. Fox plans to launch the spinoff as a limited series, like they did with last year's 24: Live Another Day, but it's possible that it could continue on as a regular series, if it performs well. Howard Gordon revealed in an interview last month that the spinoff will keep the original show's "real-time concept" and that the plot, "is in the tradition of 24."

Kiefer Sutherland revealed several months ago that he is "done" playing Jack Bauer, and, during the TCA Winter Press Tour, Fox executives teased that they're developing a 24 Spin-Off that won't focus on Jack Bauer. This spinoff is still in early stages of development, with original 24 writers/producers Manny Coto and Evan Katz set to write the script and executive produce.
