A popular Fox series is shutting down brieflly so that its star can go under the knife. According to The Hollywood Reporter, production on the hit series 24 is being halted so series star Kiefer Sutherland can undergo surgery for a ruptured cyst.

It was said the rapture happened earlier last week but production continued with scenes that didn't involve Sutherland. The production halt is only temporary though, with Sutherland expected to return by the end of this week.

"While Kiefer Sutherland is frustrated to miss even one day of work, he and Fox decided together that it would be best to complete this minor elective procedure now," said Sutherland's publicist.

Fox also added that they weren't anticipating the production halt to alter the broadcast schedule for this season's episodes.
