Just two days after Straight Outta Compton star Corey Antonio Hawkins landed the male lead in Fox's 24: Legacy, the reboot has found its female lead. Deadline reports that Miranda Otto has signed on to play Rebecca Ingram in the new series. The character is described as the "blazing smart" former head of the CTU, who is now married to Senator John Donovan. Rebecca is said to be having second thoughts about leaving the counter-terrorist unit.

The story centers on Corey Antonio Hawkins' Eric Carter, a character described as "tough and smart." He grew up in a rough neighborhood before turning his life around and joining the Army Rangers. When the series begins, Eric is back home in Virginia with his wife Nicole, who has yet to be cast, when he is pulled back into action as his past catches up with him. Our report from earlier this month revealed that he asks the CTU for help in saving his life, and stopping what potentially could be one of the largest-scale terror attacks on American soil.

The show will introduce a slew of new characters, although no details were given on the others yet to be cast, such as Sen. John Donovan and Eric's wife Nicole. The show will retain the real-time, pulse-pounding, fast-paced format with split screens and complex interweaving storylines, with each episode representing one hour of an eventful day. Kiefer Sutherland will not be returning as Jack Bauer, but it isn't known if other characters from 24 or the event series, 24: Live Another Day, will return.

Howard Gordon (Homeland, 24), Manny Coto (24) and Evan Katz (24) will serve as executive producers. The project will be produced by 20th Century Fox Television, Imagine Television and Gordon's Teakwood Lane Productions. Production on the pilot is said to begin sometime this winter, with casting currently under way.

This project will reunite Miranda Otto with producer Howard Gordon, after she portrayed Allison Carr on Season 5 of Homeland. She will next be seen in the upcoming HBO series Westworld, which recently halted production so the creators could catch up with writing the final episodes. What do you think about Miranda Otto joining 24: Legacy?
